President Donald Trump said Tuesday in Lubbock, Texas, that his administration was terminating Biden-era methane regulations for oil and gas operations. The announcement came in a speech to supporters. The reports describe an announced change, not evidence that the rules have already been formally rescinded.
Trump said the change would save consumers and energy producers $45 billion, unlock large quantities of Texas natural gas and produce 210 million barrels of oil. Those are benefits he forecast, not results documented by either report. Neither report independently quantifies the savings or production effect.
Just the News reported that the announcement would carry out an earlier proposal by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to loosen methane-leak requirements for lower-production oil wells and rescind the agency’s Super Emitter Program. LifeZette likewise reported that the EPA planned to loosen rules for smaller wells and end that program.
The accounts describe a planned rollback alongside Trump’s announcement, but neither gives final rule text or an effective date. They also do not establish that the projected savings, gas access or oil production have materialized. The reports document an announcement and an agency proposal, rather than completed implementation.
