Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Wednesday that Tehran remained in close contact with intermediaries to discuss ideas for implementing an Iranian proposal intended to end the war in the Middle East. His remarks described ongoing discussions, not an implemented agreement.
Araqchi said Iran continued to give diplomacy a chance to succeed. He raised the possibility that Tehran’s seven-day plan could be completed in less than a week if it were implemented. The reports did not describe the plan as having been put into effect.
Araqchi has previously said that the proposal could allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen if certain conditions were met. The reports provide no further details of those conditions in connection with Wednesday’s statement. The minister’s comments therefore did not establish that the waterway had reopened or that the conditions had been accepted.
Both reports say U.S. President Donald Trump rejected the proposal, prompting further Qatari mediation. The latest statement indicates that Iran is still discussing implementation ideas with intermediaries, while leaving the proposal’s status conditional. Neither report describes a resulting agreement or confirms that the seven-day timetable has begun.
